Coming right There in the bottom, right of center, (look
just off that white point across the canyon) is Totem Pole. Formerly
known as Standing Rock, it is 305 feet tall, the tallest in Monument Basin.
Along the White Rim you can see the White Rim Road. Park visitors in
4-wheel-drive vehicles can experience the Canyonlands wilderness on this
100-mile long backcountry road. Driving time is two days. Stop by
the visitor center for detailed information. The smaller 'black' cliffline
on the right is Monument Basin. Vertical fractures in the sandstone here
have caused the rocks to erode into steep-sided walls, columns, and pinnacles.
Formerly named "Standing Rock Basin".
